My name is Jim Burkett and I am an author, amongst several other trades, but it is my favorite. Although it is not my vocation, it allows me to create some of the most interesting characters and escape into a world only I alone can imagine. There are no limits to where I can go and I get to play by my rules. What comes out is something I hope others will enjoy.

Let no one tell you can't do it yourself. It is fun but it not for the faint of heart. There will be great joy and lots of moments of wondering if others will like what you wrote. The best place to start is writing for yourself. I did it for years and never showed a soul what I did, it was just for me. By chance, my photography brought me an opportunity to publish my first story and after that, I never turned back.

The biggest obstacle you will ever have to overcome is believing in yourself. If you don't, no one will either and that applies to everything you do in life. You don't have to write a novel the first time around, heck just a few sentences that conveys an idea, then a couple more about that idea, and you are off to a great start.

For a while I wrote stories for a sailing magazine and did photography at the same time. After that I combined several of my stories into a small book called 'Shorts' and self published it. It wasn't a huge success, but it gave me the inspiration to continue. My first novel is titled 'Declaration of Surrender' and I am currently in the process of writing the sequel titled 'American Sanction'. 'Declaration of Surrender' is about a Department of Homeland Security special agent who stumbles across a plot by the U.S. Congress to betray the American citizens at the end of WWII by which they secretly wrote a document surrendering all properties of the United States to whomever should appear to be winning at the time. Unknowingly, the President signs the document, therefore making it legal for any country holding the document to claim full possession of properties, homes and businesses belonging to the United States.

However the document is lost at the end of the war and for over 65 years, every nation on Earth is in search of it. Special Agent Nick West believes he has found its location and and becomes the target of assassins attempting to take his knowledge of its whereabouts. Even his own country is after him, but he will not devulge any information believing his own men will be in danger if he does. The race is on to find it first before the United States is lost forever.

The sequel picks up where 'DOS' ends as Nick makes a promise which must be kept at all cost.

I hope you will consider this book for your next read. I will be posting excerpts from the book from time to time and will you keep you informed as to when the sequel will be released. The target date is by the end of July.

Thank you for your interest and as always, happy reading.
